As Amal says goodbye to Birmingham, Alabama Poet Laureate Ashley Jones wishes Amal a safe onward journey. Together, they join a children’s march from Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to Sixteenth Street Baptist Church where they pay their respects to the children who died in the 1963 tragedy.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early to make streamers, banners, and tissue paper flowers for the march.
In partnership with Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, National Park Service, 16th Street Baptist Church, Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir and Create Birmingham.

Little Amal is the 12 foot puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk. She has become a global symbol of human rights, especially those of refugees.
Between 7 September and 26 November 2023, Amal is journeying 11,000 miles across the United States and Mexico in one of the largest free public festivals ever created. 40 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 6 cities from Tijuana to Tapachula will create 100+ free public events to welcome her.
